Curriculum Statement- History at Arundel Court

Intent

To provide high-quality history units aimed to help our children gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past as well as that of the wider world. We will enable pupils to think critically, ask questions, weigh evidence and develop perspective and judgement based on evidence. Our aim is for children to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups as well as their own identity and challenges of their time.

Implementation

• History units will be taught in chronological order to show how people’s lives have shaped this nation and how Britain has influenced and been influenced by the wider world. This will also enable pupils to develop a chronologically secure knowledge and understanding of British, local and world history.
• Our history will be taught contextually ensuring that children understand their local History and how this links to history of the wider world such as ancient civilisations.
• Children will make connections, create their own structured accounts and use evidence to question why and how historical events have happened.

Impact

The children will gain an in-depth understanding of History and will demonstrate the associated skills such as investigation, enquiry and analysis. The children will complete an assessment at the beginning and end of each unit of work in order to monitor learning and progress. Our children will ignite their curiosity and open their minds and interests to discover more about local and world history through their learning and first hand experiences.
